Kazan is ready: the Championship is about to start
Kazan is waiting for the VIII Beach Handball World Championship, and the official press conference took place before the tournament. The Championship will be held in the city from 24 to 29 of July, and a total of 144 matches will be played on 3 courts established on the territory of the Beach Sports Complex.

Almost everything is ready to start at the moment, the first throw ups are scheduled for tomorrow 9 am.

The first Vice-President of the IHF Mr. Joel Delplanque has shared his thoughts about this tournament: “I expect that the World Championship is going to be outstanding and very spectacular, because Kazan is known as the sports capital of Russia. We’ve checked everything and made sure that It’s totally fine and that the people organizing the competitions are true professionals. This World Championship is the new step forward in the development of this sport. There are so many teams making their debuts from all over the world. We are currently working on the inclusion of beach handball into the program of the Olympic Games. Beach Handball is already in the program of the Youth Olympic Games which will be held soon in Buenos Aires. Next year beach handball the World Beach Games will be held and beach handball will be presented as demo sports at the Olympics in Tokyo. I am sure that the tournament in Kazan will be held at the highest possible level” – said Joel Delplanque.

The Head of the IHF Beach Handball Working Group Mr. Giampiero Masi has commented on the level of preparation of Kazan for the Championship.

“I would like to thank the Handball Federation of Russia, Organizing Committee and volunteers for all the work they’ve done. We all did a great job, however, the most important task is still ahead. I believe that a lot of fans will come here to watch the matches and that nearly a half of the teams are true competitors for the medals, including the Russian team” – said Giampiero Masi.

The Deputy Minister of Youth Affairs and Sport of the Republic of Tatarstan Almaz Mingulov told that the Beach Handball World Championships is an important event for the Republic.

“In 2017 the Russian Beach Games were held in Kazan, and the matches of the Beach Handball Russian Cup were played here as well. We hold the Beach Sport Festival very often. However, we have never been the hosts of such a great beach handball tournament as the World Championship. We hope that these competitions will give an incentive for the development of beach and indoor handball in Tatarstan” – concluded Mr. Mingulov.

The Head of the Handball Federation of Russia Department on International Relations Ms. Elena Korneeva has invited the fans to the matches of the Championship.

“I would like to thank the International Handball Federation for giving us a right to host a Beach Handball World Championship in Russia. I also want to express my gratitude to the authorities of the Republic of Tatarstan and the Direction of Sport and Social Projects for the organization of the tournament. On Tuesday we have the opening ceremony and we are excited about this and about all the great work we’ve done. I wish al the fans to have fun here and enjoy the game” – said Elena Korneeva.

The players of the men’s and women’s Russian national team Roman Kalashnikov and Elena Ustich has also participated in the Press Conference.

“I would like to thank the International Handball Federation for giving me an opportunity to show my international friends how great Russia is and how beautiful and Kazan and the Republic of Tatarstan are. I want all the fans to enjoy the beauty of beach handball and to feel the drama during the matches. I promise that the Russian team will apply all forces to reach the highest result and satisfy the fans. Thanks everybody for the organization of the tournament, it’s clear that it’s done at the highest level. This is the sixth Championship for me, and I think that it’s going be the best one” – believes Roman Kalashnikov.

It’s a big honor for us to play in my country, especially in such a sport city as Kazan. We will do our best to show our best play and fight for the medals. I hope that the result will be outstanding and that Kazan will become home for handball” – added Elena Ustich.

The defending champions among men’s and women’s teams are Croatia and Spain respectively.
