Beach Handball World Championship in Kazan – Russian teams to show their strength

The Russian men’s and women’s teams continue playing at the Beach Handball World Championship in Kazan at home. The second match day ended up well for the hosts who advanced to the main round and also demonstrated huge potential.
This particularly applies to the men’s team. In the final match of the preliminary round the Russians played with one of the favorites from Brazil. However, the four time World Championship winners were smashed by the team Russia which put big pressure on the opposing team and won both sets (16:13, 21:20).

“The match against Brazil was like a final for us – we had no other options” – said the player of the Russian national team Igor Neklyudov. “We did our best, every player tried to show his best play and we managed to do that. This victory must give us more confidence before the main round”.

The Russian women’s team also showed a nice performance in the match against the debutant of the World Championship team USA clinching the victory 2-0 (24:10, 20:8). The women’s team just like the men’s team finished the preliminary round on the second place and the chances for the medals are not so unreasonable now.

After the second match day the list of the teams competing for the final victory became clear. In the men’s tournament it’s the teams of Russia, Croatia, Uruguay, Iran, Spain, Hungary, Vietnam, Qatar, Denmark, Oman, Sweden and Brazil. At the same time only 3 teams managed to take all three matches and get maximum six points. On Wednesday Tre Kronor continued the winning streak beating the team USA (2-1).
